One of the greatest pleasures of being an author is discovering how readers experience a story differently from the person who wrote it. On October 14, I had the wonderful opportunity to join a longtime Omaha book club for a discussion of Love Is All, hosted by The Book Club Society.

What a delightful afternoon!

Our conversation wandered through Jayne’s European adventures, the relationships that shaped her journey, and the characters who captured readers’ hearts. I especially enjoyed hearing their thoughts about Mason’s transformation and the friendships Jayne developed along the way.

Perhaps most gratifying was learning that readers found the novel’s ending satisfying. As an author, you never quite know how readers will respond to the choices you make for your characters. Hearing their interpretations and discovering which moments resonated with them made the afternoon particularly meaningful.

We also shared a few behind-the-scenes stories about the writing of Love Is All, including the inspiration for Jayne’s travels and the experiences that helped bring her journey to life.

I left reminded that a novel doesn’t truly finish its journey when the author writes the final sentence. It continues through the conversations, reflections, and connections it inspires among readers.

My heartfelt thanks to the wonderful book club members for their enthusiasm, thoughtful questions, and warm welcome. And a special thank-you to The Book Club Society for bringing readers and authors together in such an inviting setting.

After all, stories are meant to be shared!
