When a friend of ours learned that we were going to be in Las Cruces, he suggested a visit to his favorite restaurant, La Posta. With our tastebuds primed and ready for some excellent Mexican food, we were equally pleased with the restaurant itself.

Housed in an historic adobe structure, this restaurant offers a feast for the senses. As we entered, a huge birdcage with beautiful parrots filled the space by the hostess desk. Some calligraphy on the walls told the story of the space. During the 1840s it was a stagecoach stop between San Diego, California and San Antonio, Texas. Some previous visitors included Billy the Kid, Kit Carson, General Douglas MacArthur, and Pancho Villa.

In 1939, Katy Griggs Camunez started a restaurant in the northwest corner of the current building with a dirt floor and no running water. The restaurant has expanded and grown over the years with additional rooms and exotic Mexican décor.

The cuisine was authentic with pancake style enchiladas and much more. The food and the atmosphere combine for a unique experience. Love is All in this feast for your senses…past and present.

If you ever find yourself in Las Cruces, take a short drive to La Posta and enjoy the experience. You won’t regret it. Just the photos of their menu items might make you drool.
